The wraps have come off Rolls-Royce’s latest showstopper, the 200EX.
Unveiled by chairman Ian Robertson at the Geneva Motor Show, it's the design study for the next Rolls, currently codenamed the RR4. The new model will use parent firm BMW's 7-Series platform.
But despite the EX tag – which stands for ‘experimental’ – this car gives a good indication of exactly how the RR4 will look. And decked out in a two-tone dark blue and silver colour scheme, the 200EX certainly cuts an imposing figure, described by Robertson as ‘a new direction for Rolls-Royce design’.
The car has a V12 engine as well as a thermo-electric generator that captures excess heat from the exhaust system and turns it into electricity. This is used to cut emissions by around five per cent. However, while Robertson said that the hi-tech system is in the pipeline, it won’t feature on a production Rolls for at least five years.
