2. The Hall

This year’s show is the biggest Shanghai has ever hosted, boasting six huge halls full of new cars. In terms of its size, it’s the getting much closer to the legendary Frankfurt Motor Show in German.

3. Roewe 550RS

Sportscars are a rare sight in China, where drivers favour luxury saloon cars. However, the arrival of the new Roewe 550 RS signals that this is beginning to change. Though mechanically almost identical to the standard 1.8-litre model, this car does get a bodykit, and bigger brakes.

Here’s something you don’t see at every motor show… Not just a new car, but a whole new car company! Haima Motor is testament to the huge growth of the Chinese car market – which last year accounted for the sale of more than 9 million new cars. In this picture all of its new models – a mix of small and medium sized family cars -  are covered up.

7. Great Wall Wingle

Motor homes were big business at this year’s event, despite the fact that Chinese drivers need vast quantities of paperwork before they are allowed to drive across different parts of their country.

Haven’t we met somewhere before? This Panda Cross clone was a star attraction on Chinese car maker Great Wall’s stage.
