Milwaukee M12 tested

Power-crazy driver makes big impact.

24th April 2009

Removing lots of screws or fasteners can take a lot of time, unless you have a power tool – like this new M12 Compact Impact Driver from Milwaukee.

The drill comes with a solid, attractive case, which includes two rechargeable lithium-ion batteries and a mains charger. Even after a short charge the unit was able to tackle our interior fixings, and the extra battery means you needn’t stop when the power runs out.

Thanks to its tough plastic housing, the drill felt extremely durable, while the rubberised handle provided a strong combination of comfort and grip, even with wet or oily hands. An LED below the drill head meant we could light up dark areas we wanted to work on, and the device’s compact size makes it ideal for under-bonnet use. Drilling power was very good, and the unit handled all our test screws with ease. While there are cheaper tools on sale, the Milwaukee is a strong choice with its power, solidity and raft of accessories.

Problems? Not the cheapest power tool on the market.
So why buy? Small size ideal for engine bays, LED at front, robust, comfortable rubberised handle.
