Griffin iPod kit tested

MP3 range calls tune.

24th April 2009

Ipod specialist Griffin has unveiled a new line-up of gadgets to help drivers make the most of their MP3 players.

Topping the range is the TuneFlex AUX with SmartClick, which is for cars fitted with an auxiliary input for MP3 players. While the AUX socket provides a direct link to the vehicle’s sound system, the TuneFlex holds the iPod, and charges it via the cigar lighter. The SmartClick can be mounted on the steering wheel or dash to control the player wirelessly. The TuneFlex is available now from John Lewis, priced £59.99.

Griffin has also launched a simpler version, the £34.99 AutoPilot, on sale at Carphone Warehouse from next month. It powers an iPod or iPhone and provides limited control via the cigar lighter plug. Plus, there’s the £24.99 PowerJolt Reserve, also on sale in May, which uses the 12-volt socket to charge the player, as well as a detachable portable power pack.

If you don’t have an iPod, the £29.99 iTrip Auto Universal Plus is for you. It relays sound from any MP3 player’s headphone socket via an FM transmitter.
