Here’s the car that proves style runs in the family! The new VW Scirocco R is set to be joined by a little brother – based on the all-new Polo.
A three-door version of the standard supermini is being lined up for a world debut at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show, but the Polo Coupé seen here will be far more spectacular, Auto Express has learned.
The front end takes its inspiration from the Bluesport Concept seen at the Detroit expo this year, while tapered side windows and muscular rear haunches are a nod to the bigger Scirocco.
The theme of modest dimensions but big impact will continue under the Coupé’s bonnet, where the star of the engine line-up will be a 1.4-litre supercharged and turbocharged 178bhp unit.
This is the same engine as in SEAT’s Ibiza Cupra-based Bocanegra, and will also power a forthcoming Polo GTI version, which will be hooked up to a seven-speed DSG box.
If rumours are to be believed, the two-door Polo isn’t the only new VW has up its sleeve. It’s been 10 years since we last saw a Golf Cabrio, but a drop-top version of the MkVI hatch could make an appearance in 2010.

I'm not a huge fan of the VW Scirocco. To me, it looks as if the it has been left in a hot oven to wilt.
On the other hand, this Polo coupe looks sensational: Muscular, purposeful and judging by the specs, it's gonna be bloody quick. Keep the concept model away from the kitchen VW, d'ya hear???
