Ferrari Testa Rossa breaks auction record

19th May 2009

It’s the most expensive car ever to sell at auction. This black 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa has just been bought at the famous Leggenda e Passione auction in Maranello by an unknown bidder. Selling for a record €9.02 million, the historic Ferrari broke the previous record by €1.98, a mark set at the same event last year.

The immaculate V12 racecar won an impressive 10 out of 19 races between 1958 – 1961 and was ear marked as a potential record-breaker even before the auction started.

But the record breaking Testa Rossa wasn’t the only car receiving enormous bids, a 1967 Ferrari 330 P4 racecar failed to make its reserve price despite earning a bid of €7.25 million. And there was also a 1956 Maserati 250F in which Stirling Moss won the Monaco Grand Prix which also failed to sell, despite pulling bids over million.
