Don’t despair if you’re a British Formula One fan missing out on this weekend’s Silverstone sell-out. Both Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button will be back in action wowing the crowds at next month’s spectacular Goodwood Festival of Speed (3-5 July).
Once again, the glorious event has attracted an all-star cast of past and present motorsport greats. No fewer than six of the current grand prix teams will be topping the bill, including Ferrari, Red Bull, McLaren and runaway series leader, Brawn GP.
What’s more, for the first time in the Festival of Speed’s 17-year history, the 2009 event will feature the reigning title holders from both Formula One and the World Rally Championship. Hamilton, of course, has been entertaining past Festival crowds, but five-times rally champ Sebastien Loeb is making his debut.
As well as showcasing the very best that current motorsport has to offer, as always Goodwood will be marking several significant historical milestones. Audi will be celebrating its centenary with what’s described as a “truly breathtaking” automotive sculpture outside Goodwood House.
In addition, the German maker will dust off just about all of its famous competition cars, including pre-war Auto Unions and more recent victors of the Le Mans 24 Hours. Morgan and Bugatti also turn 100 in 2009, and are promising a few surprises.
Other landmarks under the Goodwood spotlight include 50 years of the legendary Mini, plus 40 years of Williams in F1. So, it promises to be another memorable automotive garden party in the picturesque Sussex countryside. Tickets must be booked in advance, either online or via the hotline on 01243 755055.
