It’s offical, GM has agreed to sell Saab to Swedish supercar makers Koenigsegg! But here are the photos that prove Saab is sticking to what it does best. The camouflage is slowly coming off and these are the best pictures yet of its new flagship, the 9-5, ahead of its debut at Frankfurt in September.

The Mercedes E-Class rival is expected to grow in size, with a wheelbase increased by 14 centimetres, some extra height and a longer body creating even more room for passengers. A platform shared with the Vauxhall Insignia should ensure the 9-5 is no slouch from behind the wheel either.

Sources have revealed that Saab will continue to exploit its turbo know-how by offering the 9-5 with a 2.0-litre turbo unit producing 210bhp. Top-spec European cars will use a 2.8-litre V6, while the Americans will get an even larger 3.8-litre V6. A range of 2.0-litre diesels and even a hybrid option will make production, too.
