New XJ steals the lime light

Jaguar releases full specs of its new flagship car

The waiting is finally over!

These official pictures reveal Jaguar’s stunning new XJ in all its detail – from its distinctive nose to that incredible tail...

Sleek, sophisticated and sporting, the XJ promises to bring a daring new spirit to the Jaguar range – with a seductive combination of striking design, breathtaking performance and advanced engineering. The all-aluminium car is available to order now, with prices starting from £52,500 and rising to £88,000 for the flagship long-wheelbase model.

The introduction of the new XJ represents a key moment for the Coventry firm as it looks to build on the success of the XK and XF. The car is positioned as the firm’s four-door flagship, and marks a mid-way point in the reinvention of the big cat brand – paving the way for new growth and new competition.

Three specifications will be offered – Luxury, Premium Luxury and Portfolio – giving customers the opportunity to tailor their model to suit their tastes. Entry-level XJs will get a 3.0-litre V6 diesel, while there are two 5.0-litre petrol V8s – one naturally aspirated and one supercharged. Fitted to the flagship machine, the latter delivers 470bhp.

Jaguar has worked hard to give the XJ the dynamic talent to mix it with the best in the class. Air-suspension, continuously variable damping, Active Differential Control and quick-ratio power-steering provide the newcomer with the combination of responsive handling and a refined, supple ride buyers expect from a big cat.

In place of the dials in the driver’s eye line, designers have fitted a 12.3-inch high-definition Virtual Instruments display panel. This works in tandem with a clever eight-inch touchscreen in the console. Its Dual-View technology allows the passenger to watch DVDs or the television as the driver views cabin functions or follows sat-nav instructions from the same display. Audio options include a 1,200W Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system.
