V12 power for baby Roller

New Ghost will feature turbo engine that propels the car from 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds

24th July 2009

The Ghost has emerged from the shadows! And the hot news is that the ‘baby’ Rolls- Royce will boast supercar performance when it goes on sale later in the year.

The model features a 6.6-litre turbocharged V12 engine which delivers 563bhp and 780Nm of torque. That’s enough to push the five-seater to 60mph in only 4.7 seconds, making it as quick as an Aston Martin Vantage off the line. Top speed is limited to 155mph. Rolls says the unit has been engineered specifically for the car, and bears no relation to the 6.75-litre V12 in the Phantom range. Power is channelled through an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox.

The Ghost measures 5,399mm end-to-end, which is 200mm more than a long-wheelbase Mercedes S-Class, but shorter than the Phantom by nearly half a metre. It should also weigh substantially less than its three-tonne brother, and will be priced at £165,000.
