The Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA remains on course for launch in the new year, despite rumours that the project has been canned to cut costs. A source told us development continues at owner Fiat’s test track in Balocco, Italy, ahead of the car’s arrival in the spring.
The newcomer will be marked out by its aggressive bodykit and purposeful stance, while a race-inspired interior is set to include bucket seats and colour co-ordinated leather trim. Power is due to come from a 230bhp 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox – this promises a 0-60mph time of less than seven seconds.
The MiTo GTA was first seen as a concept car at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and the production car will take the fight to the MINI JCW and Renaultsport Clio 200.
