Stunning new R8 ‘lite’ wings in at Ring!

The R8 is upping its game! This black V10 model, spied lapping the Nürburgring in Germany, shows Audi thinks its sublime supercar can still be improved.

A number of giveaways suggest this is a lighter, faster version of the R8. The most obvious change is the addition of a colossal rear wing, giving the car the look of a scaled-up Audi TT RS.

There’s also a more subtly revised diffuser at the back. Combine it with slick new aero winglets on the front bumper, plus race car clips on the bonnet, and it’s obvious this R8 will be as capable on the track as on public roads.

The newcomer is expected to be badged Clubsport, and also features a set of hugely powerful ceramic brakes.

In addition, Audi is said to be ditching the quattro 4WD on this car, in favour of a simpler rear-wheel-drive transmission – as on the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni.
