Lexus is heading into unchartered waters. This first official sketch, released ahead of the car's debut in Frankfurt next month, gives a first indication of how the Japanese firm's premium compact concept will shape up.
Aimed squarely at the BMW 1-series and Audi A3, Lexus is looking to shake up the established players in a sector that has proved lucrative for premium manufacturers. Based on a modified Toyota Auris platform, it will be the first front-wheel-drive Lexus.
Details are scarce at the moment, but the Japanese hatch is rumoured to use the same powertrain as the US market-only HS250h – that means a 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, boosted by an electric motor to produce around 185bhp.
