Fuel cell pioneer on way to Britain

FCX eco machine heads to Europe starting countdown to UK debut

Hydrogen power is coming to Britain! Honda’s FCX Clarity, the world’s first zero-emission, hydrogen-powered fuel cell model, has been causing a stir for quite some time in Japan and California.

And now insiders have confirmed the ultra-green machine will be heading to Europe in October, ahead of a UK debut in 2011.

The firm is bringing the FCX here as part of a large-scale awareness programme to let motorists test its abilities in everyday driving conditions. Although the necessary hydrogen-fuelling infrastructure is not yet in place to cope with large-scale demand, Honda says that availability is steadily improving.

By bringing the Clarity to Europe, it reckons awareness of the potential of hydrogen fuel cells is sure to increase.

With an estimated range of 150 miles, the car is not only incredibly clean but also very efficient and can reach 92mph.

It has been in limited production since summer 2008, and Honda aims to complete its plan to build 200 by 2011 to lease in Japan and California, for 0 (£365) a month.
