Hybrid twins

Petrol-electric X6 and 7-series also preparing to hit the stage

28th August 2009

BMW is having a hybrid party in Frankfurt!

Joining the Vision EfficientDynamics will be ActiveHybrid versions of the X6 and 7-Series.

And these two are ready for production.

But if you’re expecting Prius-rivalling CO2 emissions, think again. The X6 ActiveHybrid (above) will feature a 394bhp 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 alongside two electric motors. The result is a combined output of 473bhp and a 0-60mph time of 5.4 seconds.

The 7-Series ActiveHybrid uses the same V8, but makes do with a single electric motor for a total power output of 449bhp – enough for a 0-60mph sprint in 4.8 seconds.

Both cars will go on sale in the US early next year.
