Hybrid ready to shine

New supermini means Lexus has mini-hybrid

04th September 2009

Will Lexus strike gold with this stunning new car?

The firm’s smallest-ever model, the LF-Ch, will debut at next week’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

The newcomer will rival the Audi A3 and BMW 1-Series in the premium hatch market.

And – although it’s yet to be officially confirmed – the production car is likely to abandon petrol and diesel power, and instead focus on hybrid motors.

It will go on sale in the UK next autumn.

A spokesman said the LF-Ch reinforced Lexus’ position as the only brand to offer a range of hybrids.

“It combines stylish design and clever technology in a practical five-door to fulfil the needs of the most demanding premium compact segment customers,” he added.

As with the other Lexus cars and Toyota’s forthcoming Auris hybrid, the LF-Ch will have an electric-drive mode which means virtually silent running at low speeds.
