Citroen 2CV revealed

Pictures of reborn legend leak onto the internet ahead of its Frankfurt unveil

Citroen 2CV

By Sam Hardy

10th September 2009

The 2CV is back and here are the best pictures yet! Images of Citroen's new concept car, called the Revolte, have been leaked onto the internet ahead of its worldwide debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Official information on the newcomer is thin on the ground at the moment, but it's thought that the Revolte previews a forthcoming premium small car from Citroen aimed at the likes of the Fiat 500 and the MINI.

The curvy shape takes much inspiration from the original 2CV – just check out the C-shape that wraps around the rear doors and the distinctive tailgate, details which echo those of the famous model. However, the front grille, lights and bold wheel-at-each-corner stance are very modern cues that seek to bring the 2CV into the new millennium.

The doors open in a suicide manner and reveal a futuristic interior with a digital dashboard display and a bizarre steering wheel. Under the skin, it is expected that the Revolte will share its platform with the new DS3 premium small car – and feature a hybrid powertrain too.

We'll learn more about the new model when it's revealed at Frankfurt next week.

Beetle Vs 2CV

A piece of direct competition for the VW Beetle here?

2CV???

Looks more like a MINI, less like a 2CV!
We keep our original one.

Evoque!

I think that 2CV come back would be a extraordinary sales success and would bring some diversity into today's grayness in modern designs that all look too much alike. From design aspect though I'd rather see new 2CV looking more along the design proposal named Evoque, that was created in a World Automotive Design Competition by Guillaume Daniel, Julien Lebely, those lines would be more appropriate to form spiritual successor of 2CV....

Looks a corker

Given that recent production Citroens have not changed a great deal from their concepts -at least on the outside- this is a terrific looking car. A few jiggles here and there to suit production needs, add a decent interior, and Citroen have a winner here.
Let's face it though, it's no 2CV, but that's not necessarily a problem, the Cactus will cover that base.

STOP please!

For heaven's sake, can we stop raiding the original designs of the past, and start being original NOW. The Mini, The 500, the Beetle - these were original, creative solutions to real issues of the time. Sad retro re-makes are just cynical exercises lacking any fresh solutions to today's issues.

2CV

Don,t like interior at all exterior a little better but think it all gets away from the original point of the 2CV and I bet the price will too.
So while we are at it should we expect a remake of the Morris Minor next .

It looks to me that the makers are only interested in image... the originals were interesting cars that met the needs of ordinary people. The New Mini & the new Beetle are status symbols and the 2CV looks like joining the crowd.

Deja Vu...

I'd like to see this 2CV drive across a ploughed field without spilling the farmers lunch. Original Citroen 2CV fans will understand where I'm coming from with this statement... =)

Beeatle Mini ? €???

The original 2CV was conceived to be cheap, Yes, the Farmers are no Rich-people!!.
This one looks a space shuttle with no wings, to many complicated that the original has in mind – the farmers wife could drive to sell products in the village, and the farmer continue the farmer’s work, Right? This perhaps needs a PHD to drive…
Its preaty? YES!!!
Interesting? YES!!!
Inovating? YES!!!
Modern? Too Much YES!!! !!! !!!
Did I Like it? Ho YES!!! !!! !!!
Is a 2CV? NO!!! NO!!! NO!!!
Another issue is concern that the 2 cv is Thin, not this large guy…

Please, top remind:
2CV = Compound suspension + Boxer Engine + Easy to drive + Cheap + Economic + Thin + Wind in the hair + a full unbroken basket of eggs in the luggage + no Batery/no Problem.

Things that really could come for better:
3 Point seat belts in all 4 seats + Noise reduction + Consumption.

It is obligatory the restyling, but… … …

Can a 2CV make 3,5l/100km? Yes it can, the last model make it in 5 (or less)l/100km – Carburettor…

2CV Lovers don’t asked for speed, we ask for “The Look”, Comfort, Economy and Good Weather.

Try this link an see the 1st white one that appears (is more like it): http://images.google.pt/imgres?imgurl=http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y16/rnds/citroen-c-airplay-3715.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.germancarzone.com/citroen/14807-new-citro%25EBn-2cv.html&usg=__w_Jc9XCyeZMmIbvjzdsKM1X8uMc=&h=600&w=800&sz=96&hl=pt-PT&start=15&um=1&tbnid=Kf-Rxo1iMRcFTM:&tbnh=107&tbnw=143&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dthe%2Bnew%2B2cv%26hl%3Dpt-PT%26lr%3D%26rlz%3D1G1GGLQ_PT-PTPT301%26sa%3DX%26um%3D1

I know people that only rides a 2CV because their back problem…

Can you please not blow it?

My 2Cv Club of 1990 wants a worthy “son” to share the garage with…

Kindest regards for all…

To end.

Things that I liked on this new BeetleMini prototype:

Rotational front seats;
Back seats;
Door opening (no B Pilar).

Inovation with no steroids... ;)
