From supercars to superminis... This year's Frankfurt Motor Show has it all. Below are a selection of some of the cars that caught our eye on day one of the event's two press days.

Alfa Romeo MiTo   Audi R8   BMW Vision   SEAT Ibiza ST
1. Alfa Romeo MiTo

Italian firm Alfa Romeo presented this sporty MiTo Cloverleaf on its Meccano themed stand. Finished in a matt white paint, it had no trouble turning heads.



 
2. Audi R8

This one-off Audi R8 featured polished aluminium bodywork, and was created to show off the car's tough yet light weight construction. Though unlikley to be offered as an option in the UK, our source revealed a few wealthy customers have ordered just such a model through Audi Individual - the firm's bespoke finishing department.



 
3. BMW Vision

BMW's EfficientDynamics concept car promised to impress, and in the flesh there's no doubt it delivered. With it's dramatic design it was undoubtedly one of the stars of this years show.



 
4. SEAT Ibiza ST

New Concept IBZ is an estate based on Ibiza, and it previews an ST version of the supermini.

5. Audi R8 Spyder

Drop-top version of Audi's flagship supercar takes a bow.



 
6. Vauxhall Astra

New family hatch could be make or break for firm since buyout by Canadian parts firm Magna.



 
7. Porsche 911 Classic

Limited edition pays homage to 1973 Carrera RS, and only 250 will be sold worldwide.



 
8. Mansory Cyrus

Luxury car tuning firm Mansory takes an Aston Martin DB9 and covers it in carbon fibre.

New executive saloon made its European show debut at Frankfurt.

Kia joins the supermini-MPV party with its new small family car.

Four-door Rapide was at the heart of Aston Martin's show stand - presented by the firm's chief Dr Ulrich Bez, and a pair of Afghan hounds!



 
12. Ferrari F458 Italia

Ferrari's 458 Italia made its public debut - with a showcar presented in this dramatic yellow. On sale next year, the Italia's advanced chassis promises the raw pace on a par with the firm's Enzo supercar.
