The new Vauxhall Astra made its worldwide debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show with the news that the fresh compact family car will kick off at £15,675.
That's for the entry level 86bhp Exclusiv 1.4i, which costs £270 more than the outgoing equivalent model, but now comes with air conditioning, electronic stability control, 16-inch wheels and an MP3-compatible CD player with aux-in.
Meanwhile, higher up the range, the SRi 1.4i Turbo, with its new engine costs £10 more than the current non-turbo SRi 1.8-litre petrol, yet boasts the same 138bhp output and reduces CO2 emissions by 18 per cent.
Equipment includes an electronic parking brake and active head restraints as standard.
The diesel line-up starts with a new and more powerful 109bhp Exclusiv 1.7 CDTi, which emits 11g/km less CO2 than the outgoing 99bhp engine, but only costs £15 more at £18,015.
In addition an EcoFLEX version will arrive in the first half of 2010, emitting just 109g/km. However, it will be replaced toward the end of the year with a start-stop version emitting just 99g/km. All Vauxhall models will have start-stop technology within two years.
The new Astra is available to order now with the first cars reaching showrooms in December.
No Meriva present at the show. As it stands Vauxhall is holding off until the New Year to present the vehicle. It's likley debut is reckoned to be next year's Geneva Show.
Like most cars on the UK market Very much overpriced, Hope it is better than the Korean Krap Chevrolet Cuze same platform outdated petrol engines.. Vauxhall still make the Rev Counter look like the Speedo should be I/1000 not stupid I/100
here's the new car for the working man with an on the road price for a basic car around £16000, after 3 years, worth around 45% leaves it worth £7,200, a depreciation of £8,800 or £2933 a year or £219 a month or £56 a week. plus running costs. Forget the aircon etc. just give me a car I can afford to run.
