Porsche isn’t the only premium maker with some shocking news! Rolls-Royce is considering an electric variant of its flagship saloon, the Phantom, Auto Express has learned.
At the recent Goodwood Revival, a spokesman for the brand let slip that a battery-powered Phantom is currently under consideration, admitting that the excess weight of a lithium-ion battery pack would be less of a problem in a car which already weighs close to the three-tonne mark.
A small-capacity range-extending engine, such as the 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel powerplant fitted to parent company BMW’s Vision EfficientDynamics concept, could be used by Rolls to top up the batteries on the go.
