IT'S over for MG Rover – again. Production lines at the MG Rover plant at Longbridge in the West Midlands have been stopped once more, this time because the famous British brand's Chinese owners can't guarantee stability.
Production last stopped back in 2005 when MG Rover went bankrupt. It was restarted last year with production of a new version of the MG TF, called the LE 500 and there were hopes that MG Motor UK Ltd. (owner Nanjing Automobile's new name for MG) would build more new models at the plant, ensuring jobs in the West Midlands.
However, continuing economic problems have forced Nanjing to re-evaluate the situation and it's now being reported that the company is looking at making several redundancies in addition to keeping Longbridge closed until March 2010.

If the general public knew MG were back in the first place they may have sold more cars than they have, even in the current economic climate.
In fact if the situation that occurred at MG Rover 5 years ago had only just happened would the government be helping out?
I suppose not as it was a British owned company at that time.
If Citreon, Peugeot or Renault were suffering would the French government let them go to the wall? I expect the answer in France would be NON
MG I expect will be back again next year just due to the strength of the brand name, but all this time in the wilderness will only take it further away from the public conscience and I suspect it's eventual slide into the history books.
Never mind, I'm sure there's some new cheap foreign product for us to buy because you certainly can't buy British anymore - that is of course unless you want a Morgan or Ginetta, or perhaps even a Nissan !!!!!!!!!
You right in what your saying , well in most of it...
peugeot and citroen are the same company , both already at least 51% owned by the french gov, i no this becouse i work for the psa group (Citroen UK).
more importantly MG will be back , they always come back....
get over it mg are gone who cares they made crap cars
Petrolhead94, you call yourself a petrol head yet clearly know nothing of this marques history. They made great sports cars for family car prices, they had great handling and for their time excelent styling too. also during the war the factory made bombers so contributed in your ability to speak freely, in English. I assume the 94 refers to you year of birth, making you only 15. Why don't you go back to your bedroom and play with your toy car collection as you clearly know nothing about real cars!
