Petrol speed star eclipses 330mph

Turbocharged V8 hits 330mph

Speedliner

16th October 2009

It looks like a rocket, and definitely goes like one – but this is the world’s fastest petrol-fuelled car.

Earlier this month, the Infidel Streamliner hit a record 330.7mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.

Despite using fighter-jet body parts, it’s powered by a Seventies-era Cadillac V8 engine. This is fitted with twin turbochargers and has a huge 8.7-litre capacity – and delivers a massive 1,900bhp power output.
