Fresh details of Land Rover’s replacement for the legendary Defender have emerged.
Auto Express has learned that an all-new off-roader is set to be launched in 2013. And just like the original, which first appeared in 1948 and is due to disappear from the line-up in the next few years as a result of tightening modern safety and emissions standards, the newcomer will be every inch the unstoppable 4x4.
Taking cues from the Land E concept, the new car will fit in just below the Freelander. Customers are likely to be able to choose from a more rugged, off-road set-up or a luxurious, comfortable configuration, depending on their needs. Phil Popham, Land Rover managing director, has dispelled any
fears of the Defender losing its off-road crown, stating that the new car will be geared towards “the versatility and practicality side”.
A range of diesel-hybrid powerplants will deliver massive low-down torque – ideal for off-road driving.
