Cheryl is most wanted lift

She's already proved she’s got the X Factor – and now, pop star Cheryl Cole has followed her number one chart success by being named as the UK’s most-wanted car passenger.

The Girls Aloud member and talent show judge came top in a survey by tyre maker Bridgestone to find the celebrity drivers we would most like to share a journey with.

But while half of male motorists opted for beauty by picking the singer, female drivers went for brains – choosing actor Stephen Fry as their ideal travel companion.

The study also showed that car owners are refusing to change their motoring habits in the face of the tough economic climate. A massive majority – 72 per cent – of those quizzed said the recession hasn’t affected how often they get behind the wheel, or how far they drive.
