The Government has set up a new body to work more closely with the car industry on developing the UK’s production of green cars.
The Automotive Council has been tasked with coming up with fresh ideas to promote and expand the countries’ motoring businesses. It will focus on eco-friendly technology, the creation of a highly-skilled work force and schemes to help us compete in a global market.
Former Ford boss Richard Parry-Jones will jointly chair the Council with Business Secretary Lord Mandleson. Invites are being sent out to join the new body to senior automotive bosses and it has yet to be decided who will be included on the board. The first meeting is due to held by the end of the year.
Paul Everitt, Chief E of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said: “This move is an explicit recognition of the strategic national importance of the UK motor industry and its role in generating jobs for the long term.”
