It’s a forced fourth for Ford! The blue oval has increased its UK list prices again from the start of this month, having already made adjustments in February, April and July.
The move is in response to the weakness of the pound against the Euro. Prices rise by 2.7 per cent on average – so a Focus 1.6-litre Zetec five-door will cost £18,245, compared to £16,145 a year ago.
On the most popular Ford models, including the Ka and Fiesta, the hikes add an extra £250-£500. The biggest price increase is on a Galaxy 2.2-litre TDCi diesel, which goes from £29,320 to £29,920. Ford has blamed the rises on Sterling plummeting – it’s now worth over 30 per cent less than it was two years ago. Ford top brass say they’ve taken “strenuous cost-reduction actions” to limit the impact on buyers, but claim something eventually had to give. All new car prices are set to go up on 1 January, when the VAT rate returns to 17.5 per cent.
Several manufacturers are expected to use that deadline to announce actual rises, too.

You’ve seen how Ford’s next Focus RS is shaping up. But the current car is getting more power. Tuner Graham Goode Racing had already taken it from the standard 301bhp to 340bhp, with its RS GGR 340 (driven in Issue 1,080). And it’s at it again! The new GGR 370 delivers 368bhp – or 22 per cent more than the regular car. This is thanks to a carbon-fibre induction system and more aggressive engine mapping, as well as an uprated intercooler, exhaust and more effective fuel injectors. The upgrade isn’t cheap, at £4,312, but the GGR 370 comes with the firm’s 12-month/30,000-mile breakdown cover for added peace of mind. It’s available now, and can be fitted as a drive-in, drive-out package at Graham Goode Racing’s Leicester HQ.
