But it’s not all about the Up!, or the new Beetle… VW also picked the LA Motor Show to announce its new pick-up, the Amarok.
These are the first pictures of the car, which will be available as a four-door double cab version from launch. A single cab model to follow in 2011.
First models expected to be in UK in September 2010.
Prices are still to be confirmed, yet VW has announced the model will offer a payload capacity of up to 1.15 tonnes and maximum towing limit of 2.8 tonnes.
Under the bonnet there will be a choice of two 2.0-litre TDI diesel engines offering 160 bhp, and 400 Nm or 120 bhp and 340 Nm respectively.
Both engines have a six-speed manual transmission and will offer CO2 emissions of less than 200 g/km.
Like the new Transporter and Caravelle, the Amarok has a gearchange indicator to help drivers achieve the best fuel economy, which with an 80-litre fuel tank should offer a range of over 600 miles.

Finally a pick up that looks good whatever the angle.
A real choice now.
If this picks up more than a 4 star at NCAP, forget the Navara and the Warrior
