Mazda 2 MPS debuts in LA

Mazda turns up the heat on Ford's Fiesta with high performance 2 MPS concept

Mazda 2 MPS

03rd December 2009

Mazda showed it's dark side at the 2009 LA Motor Show, with this high performance concept car, based on the Mazda 2...

Concieved as a weekend racer, but one that can function equally well as an urban commuter the Mazda 2Evil Special Concept was the Japanese firm's answer to Ford's sporty Fiesta RS concept - also shown at the LA event.

The body has been modified to show a more aggressive front spoiler and a deeper side rocker for improved aerodynamics and lower overall stance.

The rear upper spoiler was redesigned for both additional downforce and a race appearance while Ceramic Grey paintwork, complete with  motorsports inspired graphics completes the look.

The graphics are finished off with the historic number 55, a tribute to the 1991 Le Mans-winning Mazda 787B race car.

Wheels, mirrors and other details are accented in Spirited Green.  To top it off, the performance and stance are enhanced with 17” wheels, 215/45/17 Yokahama Advan tires, lowered coil-over suspension provided by H&R and Magna performance exhaust.

3-door hatch?

I'd like to know if the three-door hatch will be offered.

All show and no go?

I see lots of cometic changes, but what about power?

Does this have a more powerful engine, or is this car all about the show and not about the go?
