The Japanese firm has had to call back 3.8 million models in the US – including the Prius hybrid and luxury Camry, plus the Tacoma and Tundra trucks and some Lexus cars. The issue concerns faults with floor mats that could see the throttle stick and lead to a crash.
In recent weeks, Toyota had blamed owners for fitting mats incorrectly. It then released a solution, which involved plastic zip-ties to stop mats slipping. Top brass now say a fix will involve altering the throttle so it doesn’t catch. On some vehicles, the floor will be reshaped. Other cars will get a brake override system which cuts the engine power if the throttle and brake pedals are pushed together. No UK models are affected.

A customer of mine has a Toyota Yaris. The car would randomly accelerate for no reason. Two technicians flew over 2 months ago to check check it out. She was told it had been fixed. Could this problem be even bigger than they're letting on??? Has anyone else had a similar problem?
Had the same problem on my Yaris, pedal got stuck under the floor mat. Luckily it qickly came loose again though. I regularly check now that the carpet doesnt slide forward, allowing the pedal to get stuck underneath it.
