here’s the news all Cubists have been waiting for! Nissan has revealed that its Cube city car – which has been one of the UK’s most popular grey imports – will officially go on sale here next month.
The boxy model won’t lose any of its quirky charm as it’s readied for our shores. The Japanese firm has fitted a large triple-layered glass sunroof, which comes with a traditional ‘shoji’ shade made of rice paper. A ‘droplet’ shape in the headlining and the cup-holders is designed to evoke the calming effect of ripples in water.
New to the Cube range will be a special LDN edition – the badge stands for London – to celebrate the car’s arrival here. The first 100 examples will come in this spec, which brings unique Bitter Chocolate paintwork, and gets kit such as climate control and automatic headlights and windscreen
wipers for its £14,600 price.
Buyers who miss out on the LDN will have the option of a basic £14,000 Cube, which features a glass roof, Bluetooth connectivity and cruise control as standard. There’s also a higher-spec Kaizen model. It weighs in at £15,100, and adds sat-nav, a parking camera and climate control.
At launch, the only engine option will be a 108bhp 1.6 petrol, which promises fuel economy of 42.8mpg. It will be joined in May by a 1.5-litre diesel. Both can be mated to either a manual transmission or Nissan’s CVT auto set-up.
