It’s the box-shaped car, that is anything but square. Named the Granite Concept, this uniquely-styled urban crossover is somewhat of a rarity for the American manufacturer, who isn’t usually known for its concepts.
Less spacious than the Nissan Cube, the Granite is shorter too, but fold flat rear seats that cleverly flip up against the centre console and rear-hinged rear doors, like Vauxhall’s new Meriva, mean the Granite has plenty of storage space when it is required.
But despite its individual styling, underneath its skin the Granite is far more familiar. Sharing its platform and 1.4-litre turbocharged engine with the Chevrolet Cruze, the nippy, 138bhp micromini is ideal for busy cities. The concept version gets a six-speed manual gearbox, although if the Granite makes it into production next year we expect there will also be an automatic version on offer, too.

I'm a fan of the "box" cars like toyota's Bb Nissan's Cube, and some of the other Japanese cars. I would buy this. Unfortunately it would be a hard sell for most people that normally look at the GMC forecourts.
