Chevrolet Aveo RS Concept

From zero to hero - Chevrolet has transformed its Aveo supermini in a smoking hot hatch for Detroit

Chevrolet Aveo RS

11th January 2010

With a desire for big cars and big engines, America has never truly bought into the idea of hot-hatches. But Chevrolet's latest concept, the Aveo RS, is hoping to change all that.

These pictures, released ahead of the car's official unveiling at the Detroit Motor Show, reveal an aggressive design that has transformed the bland look of the current generation Aveo.

A longer and wider body, complete with a rising waist-line and large bumpers gives the new car a sporty stance, and a set of impressive 19-inch alloy wheels adds an extra dose of style. Under the bonnet, a 138bhp turbocharged 1.4-litre engine ensures the RS has the power to match its new look.

Inside, the Aveo's cabin is finished in black leather with blue contrast stitching for a stylish, upmarket feel. The instrument cluster, which features a centrally mounted speedometer and digital display, is borrowed from the Chevrolet Spark and the centre console is recognisable from more upmarket General Motors cars.

Chevrolet hasn't announced plans to put the RS into production, but it's likely to form part of the next generation Aveo range which is due to go on sale in the first half of 2011.

If they produce this I think this could be the best looking small car in production

Very nice. Unfortunately it will not look like this when it comes to market. Americans are cheap. Look for plastic wheel covers and low content. The RS would be priced in Mini or Fiat 500 range. The people that buy Chevrolet in the usa want huge and cheap.

USA wants Huge and Cheap?

Hey Grand, perhaps that is all they could get in the past vis., huge and cheap. As proof that, in fact, they wanted small and cheap is the reason GM and the other American car companys went pooh. I give them credit that, perhaps and I say, perhaps they have seen the light and the Aveo RS is a step in the right direction.

Decent looking car. Hopefully NOT a Daewoo.

Here in the US, the Aveo is the cheapest, and in my opinion, the poorest quality car in the Chevy lineup. Its just a re-badged Daewoo. The cars just fall apart even though there has been some improvement of late. This car doesn't look half bad.
