Indian manufacturer Tata Motors has appointed Carl-Peter Forster as its new Group CEO. The position means he will have overall responsibility of Tata's operations globally, including British brands Jaguar and Land Rover.
With 24 years of experience in the automotive industry, Forster has formed quite a reputation as a man that gets things done. Most recently and since 2001 he was head of General Motors, Europe, where he oversaw the revival of Vauxhall products. Before that he spent 13 years in a variety of senior management positions at BMW.
Ratan Tata, Chairman of Tata Motors said: "Tata Motors expects that Mr. Forster’s induction will greatly facilitate its ambition towards being a truly international company.”

Forster came from BMW where he was not really one of their bright lights down in Bavaria and his going was not mourned in Munich!
At General Motors sleepy valley tax saving operation General Motors Europe in Zürich he was a bit of a civil servant type paper pusher more than a dynamic entrepreneur which is what was and is needed at OPEL Europe.
And that why in spite of his work OPEL landed in such a mess with about 24 plants spread over Europe like butter and with about 12,000 employees to many. And he did nothing about this.
TATA would have been much better off getting Nick Reilly or even the dynamic proven German Utz Claasen but this is probably a size to big for TATA and their present thinking.
TATA must learn that 24 years experience alone does not replace real ability!
Forster is a nice man and was available and thats great but he is not the dynamic entrepreneur that will take TATA into the forefront of premium car sales in Europe and the USA!
In Zürich he seemed always eager to really do something dramatic but then it never happened because he was too busy!
And Jaguar and Land Rover now? Oh oh!
