Has the Magentis finally hit a purple patch? The signs are promising, after Kia unveiled the first official pictures of its new Mondeo rival, ahead of its world debut at the New York Motor Show next month.
The set of official teaser sketches we revealed back in February showcased a bold new look for the Korean saloon, and Kia hasn’t shied away from this for the production version. The car is longer, lower and wider than its predecessor.
Following the current trend for four-door saloons with coupé silhouettes, the Magentis features a rakish roof and a high, rising shoulder line to give it a sporty appearance.
Flared wheelarches and a pronounced kink to the window line inject additional drama to the design, while Audi-style tail-lights add to the feeling of sophistication. Up front, the car’s striking grille has Kia’s latest family face, which blends seamlessly into the compact headlight clusters. Below this, a set of LED daytime running lights add to the car’s more upmarket image.
Kia is hoping its latest model will have broader appeal in the UK and throughout Europe when it goes on sale at the beginning of next year. The sculpted body was designed in the firm’s studios in Frankfurt, Germany, and there will be a choice of three hi-tech diesel engines and one petrol unit.
No pictures of the interior have been released yet, but Kia is promising a spacious cabin with class-leading levels of safety and luxury equipment. The Magentis will make its world debut on 1 April.

I never thought that a car would look better than the Mondeo.
This is it.
What a car.
Want to buy this!
But will it be like a Mondeo? I'm not sure.
No it won't be like a Mondeo, it'll be well made, supported by dealers who care about their customers and have a seven year warranty. I really hope this model sells well. I was a little apprehensive about changing from a Honda Civic to a Kia Pro_cee'd but two years and 20k miles later I'm well pleased.
As a driver of mondeo mk.s 1,2,3,4 n hire of two weeks of mk, 5 this KIA has got to DRIVE well to impress looks dont always count aka Insignia so 7 year warranty aside i"ll wait ............
The Ford Mondeo is a better car. The awkward C-pillar on the Kia is one glaring oversight. The car needs to drive well not just look good which is the reason that Ford's are so popular. Kia are doing well so don't get me wrong but they are still a budget brand.
This new car from KIA looks exactly the same as the MG6 concept that Auto Express showed last year. Has the car designer stolen the illustration, or just moved to KIA?

Most Fords (not all) have good handling, ride and steering. Their gearboxes get notchy and heavy after 20k miles, and their engines are old tech whereas Kia have just built a new engine plant in Slovakia to make its next gen engines also i find in Fords the pedals stiffen ruining the driving experience. If the Magentis gets built as well as the C'eed it will please lots of people, but not everyone.
This model was designed by Peter Schreyer, former head of Design for Audi, who was headhunted by Kia a few years ago, but it does bear a striking resmblance to the SAIC MG6 but that says more about where design is headed in the next few years.
This is a handsome vehicle from every angle. In profile it looks very much like a Saab, which is no bad thing. Interior quality will be above average judging by the current crop of KIAs and driving dynamics are likely to impress, even if they're not quite equal to modern euro standards. Well done KIA...
