Citroen DS4 caught in the cold

Citroen’s engineers have been dispatched to tip of Sweden to ensure the latest model in the new DS range comes up to scratch. But despite the remote location, our spies have tracked the new model down.

The French firm didn’t leave much to the imagination when it showed the DS Inside Concept, which previewed the DS3. And despite its camouflage, there’s no hiding just how close the newcomer’s proportions are to the DS High Rider unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.

The headlights, taillights and wheels look virtually identical to the concept. But while the prototype looks fairly substantial, its likely dimensions of 4.26 meters long, 1.82 meters wide and 1.48m high make shorter, lower but wider than a Nissan Qashqai, and smaller in every dimension than the Peugeot 3008 with which its shares its platform.

The interior will be more upmarket than its rivals, and more plush than the all-new Citroen C4 which will debut alongside the production DS4 at September’s Paris Motor Show.

The DS4 goes on sale in the UK in early 2011, with a choice of 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines, driving the front wheels. A diesel hybrid version will launch later in 2011.
