Vauxhall Zafira out in the open

First spy shots of Vauxhall's all-new seven seater family car

Vauxhall Zafira

Take a look at Vauxhall's latest best-seller! These are the first spy pictures of the Luton-based firm's new Zafira – and it promises to be better looking and more practical than ever.

The third generation of the popular people carrier, the latest Zafira is based on the new Astra and, as you can see, gets a sleek body that mixes themes from the Focus rival. Despite the chequered disguise, it's clear is it's a good looking machine.

Inside, expect a high quality cabin that takes further inspiration from the Astra, but adds more versatility with fold flat rear seats, offering space for seven in total. As you can see, the Zafira gets conventional rear doors, rather than the 'suicide'-style doors of the Meriva.

Under the skin lies the Astra's front-wheel drive platform, so expect the Zafira to get the same line-up of engines including small capacity petrol turbo units. Vauxhall will also offer its FlexRide suspension set-up and a system that allows the driver to tweak throttle and steering sensitivity.

The new Zafira will debut at the Paris Motor Show in September, with sales starting in the UK in early 2011.

Sorry who are you kidding, I can't tell anything about the style of this new car. For all we know it could be very difficult to tell the difference between it and its predecessor!!!

Very Vauxhall...

Smart wheels... But it doesn't look anything too special. No doubting it's a member of the Vauxhall family though...

Looks as bland as current version!

When the finished product is revealed i bet it will be as disappointing to look at as the current version was when it was new. 'Good looking' is quite a restrained description - we are more used to 'stunning' or 'radical' when describing future models only to be let down when the wraps officially come off.

Why no sliding rear doors?

The Mariva got rear opening doors to aid in/out. They should have made a change to the rear doors for the Zafira!

Where car spaces are getting smaller and the Zafira is a family car it would make more sense to have the rear doors ideally sliding.

Vauxhall did do this on a model like the zafira before, but for some reason went back to normal doors...........Why?

Apart from that I dont see a huge difference to the current model.

Last thing is when i bought mine SXI + a few options the book price came to 22k......I bet this will come through at closer to 26k.

Replace the bench seat with 3 proper seats

Just to add my two penneth worth. If vauxhall are serious about producing a radical change to the existing Zafira then the middle bench seat has to go and be replaced with 3 proper seats.
I have had a Zafira since 04 and its had a few problems but the deciding factor for it needing to go is the lack of room for the children when they are using the bench seat and thats with only one of them being on a booster now.
Ford Citroen and Peugeot have all managed it with no real increase in the width of the vehicle so I can't see why Vauxhall can't.
The addition of sliding doors would also be great but to be fair it wouldn't be a deal breaker.
I would also like to see greater protection for the passengers in the rear most seats because inthe event of a rear shunt...well it just doesn't bare thinking about hence we tend to use ours only when absolutely necessary but we wouldn't be without them.
