Here’s the proof that Lamborghini is readying a new model to replace the Murcielago. Auto Express exclusively revealed details of the firm’s new flagship last week. And these latest spy pictures confirm that the longer, wider supercar is on target to set new performance benchmarks for the brand.
The supercar had previously been snapped cold weather testing north of the Arctic Circle. But these images, taken in southern Europe, show that development work has now switched to warmer climes as the firm’s engineers hone the carbon fibre body’s large side intakes which feed air to the new mid-mounted 7.0-litre V12.
The shots clearly show that Lamborghini is evaluating aerodynamic strakes on the doors to help guide the flow of air around the car and into the engine bay, minimising drag whilst also maximising cooling.
Lamborghini has invested heavily in carbon fibre technology, and the new car will be the first to benefit with its composite body. The shape is honed to slip through the air as efficiently as possible, increasing top speed to around 225mph, while the material also saves weight. The pictures also reveal the car's huge brakes and Reventon-style engine cover.
As is Lamborghini tradition, its all-new models get new names, often inspired by the world of bullfighting. The current Murcielago is named after a famous bull which survived a particularly epic fight. Expect a similarly exotic name for the newcomer.

How come Lambo are giving it a new name? Murcielago already sounds exotic, but I understand the fact that that name is no more. Why don't they call it something similar, like an Embolado-like name, or carry on with the Murcielago name?
