SEAT put in a strong showing at the legendary GTI Meeting in Austria last week. Drivers of the Spanish brand were treated to a look at several high-performance models, including the new Ibiza ST estate and a Leon Cupra R with an extra power injection.
The Ibiza ST was kitted our with the blacked-out front end from borrowed from the Bocanegra. Other stars of the show included a bright yellow Leon ‘Supercopa’ world touring car and an ‘ultimate’ version of the Leon Cupra R. The tuned hot-hatch featured massive white alloys wheels and had 281bhp on tap - 20bhp more than in the current car.
Unfortunately for us, there are no plans for this crazed Cupra to go into production, but it does show that the Leon's front wheel drive chassis can cope with even more power from the 2.0 turbo under the bonnet.
The tuning fans swarming about the streets of Reifnitz in southern Austria were treated to a number of special events. As well as sneaking a glimpse at some of the hottest tuned cars, SEAT owners had the chance to go on the VIP terrace, relax on the SEAT party boat, and hang out with the glamorous Grid Girls.
There was even a competition to find this year’s ‘Cupra Star’ with hopefuls sending in pictures of themselves and their cars. The winner was crowned at the event, and given a brand new SEAT free of charge for three months.
