Diehard gaming fans still won’t be able to race Porsches when the long-awaited fifth version of Gran Turismo arrives in November. However, the marque’s absence from the Sony PlayStation 3 franchise promises to be the only disappointment, as more news of the game emerged at the E3 consumer electronics show in Los Angeles, US, last week.
The expo also debuted a GT5 trailer, which revealed some new models set to appear including the Maserati GranTurismo, Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione and electric Tesla Roadster. These will line up alongside cars already announced, including the Ferrari 458 Italia and Mercedes SLS.
Gran Turismo 5 is set to create a new benchmark in racing games, with more than 1,000 highly detailed vehicles, 70-plus tracks, real-time day-to-night lighting, online racing, realistic handling and accurate damage modelling. There is some consolation for Porsche fans, though. German company Ruf, which specialises in tuning the Stuttgart machines, is set to return for GT5.
