Rumours persist that Porsche is planning a front-engined two-door coupe along the lines of the old 928. And it seems like the German firm is getting in on the game itself, by showing this teaser sketch on the website of its consultation division.
Buoyed by the success of the Panamera in emerging markets like Russia and China, a two-door coupe could be spun off a shortened version of the Panamera’s platform. The car’s V6 and V8 engines, and PDK and manual gearboxes could also be carried over.
But where it gets interesting is the look of the new car now Porsche has been taken over by the VW. Group design boss Walter da Silva is keen to influence the look of future Porsches, encouraging the brand, and chief designer Michael Mauer, to be more radical.
Although the sketch shows a car that’s typically Porsche, with conservative lines and a familiar 911-style face, a GT car to take on Aston Martin’s V8 Vantage and even the Mercedes SLS could usher in his new regime.
