BMW’s 5 Series is going down a storm. So much so, that the Audi A6-rivalling executive saloon has sold out in all of the markets BMW sells it in, leading to waiting times of up to four months for new cars.
BMW’s sales chief, Ian Robertson confirmed “the 5-Series is at the core of the BMW brand and we knew it was going to be a very strong vehicle for us.”
The new car shares much of its underpinnings with the current 7 Series. Both cars are built at BMW’s Plant Dingolfing in Germany, where production of the 5 Series is currently being ramped up to cope with demand.

Why buy this over the Jaguar XF. The Jag is more reliable and has soul. I live in Germany and am fed up with Germans laughing about the British car industry. You buy the 5-series, you support them.
Well you can all go and buy the new SAAB 9-5 instead..
It'll cost less and you be feeling every bump in the road either.
Oh and did I mention the traction. Hell the things darn near impossible to crash.
Yup we all just go back and but another 5 series they are very good. This time my dealer offered me really bad trade in price so I went away to test drive something else after 5 BM 5 series buys.
Yes you have guessed it I have a shiny new Jaguar XF DIESEL S in the driveway and its really fabulous and the dealership treated me well too. You cant beta buying locally for great service from people who want you back to see them for more business

you must be a gherkin if you really believe the jag-ford more reliable than the germans. daft...
the germans laugh at the british car industry because it was so sad that it died. thankfully the colonials were there to pick up the pieces...

Gherkin has a point Have had the 530D since April however its spent the last 2 weeks at the garage as it doesn't like water and for some reason Bee M cant yet tell me when the parts will appear as the vehicle is too new?. Great car though, well executed shame it doesn't like the wet.
It's the sheep mentality. People buy these cars because of the perceived status. To my mind they're all soul less. They may be good drivers cars but the designs are all just so bland. I drove the Jag XFR, diesel S and XJ today and they just blow any of the German stuff out of the water. And, they're now up with best in terms of reliability. It's a myth to think German cars are as reliable as they were. If it's reliability you want, you have to buy Japanese, but again soul less.
Are BMW flat out in producing this car or are they just restricting supply on purpose AutoExpress?
We`ve heard a lot about Eurozone car companies having scaled back production recently, due to the recession thats hitting European and American markets. Is the waiting list (therefore) down to amazing and overwhelming demand for this very conservative 5 series, or is it down to the fact the factories producing them not being capable of producing the vehicles in the right numbers,in attempt to make sure quality is of a high enough standards expected of the marque? (BMW traditionally have real quality lemons with their first batches of there new models!)
The Five itself is certainly a fairly understated exec,(like a bloated 3 series) that seems to be going more towards a Mercedes than BMW in character... I`m not sure any of the German brands can truly say they have sufficiently a quality ambiance of presence over a Jaguar or the reliability and attention to detail of a Lexus? (Those flared arches on E-class`s just look retro-daft!)
All these German premium brands are OK for the Mr Brylcreem executive though... (Just a bit 90`s now in image)
