The R8 Spyder V10 (pictured) is set to be joined by a V8 version.
The R8 Spyder now has two fewer cylinders! The German firm has slotted its 4.2-litre V8 unit into the stunning drop-top.
The 424bhp unit joins the 518bhp V10, completing the two-strong Spyder range. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard, but many buyers are expected to opt for the six-speed R Tronic automated manual. Quattro four-wheel drive remains standard.
Despite its lower cylinder count, performance remains seriously impressive. Regardless of transmission, the 0-62mph sprint takes just 4.8sec and top speed is 185mph. With R Tronic, fuel consumption is 20.3mpg, falling to 19mpg with the manual box.
Aside from the engine change, the same high level of standard kit, aluminium spaceframe body and retractable folding cloth roof. The UK on sale date and price are still to be confirmed.
