How’s this for watercooler TV? While you wait for your Audi to be serviced, the mechanic’s progress will be relayed to the waiting room telly!
The new scheme sees ‘Audi Cam’ headsets attached to the lead mechanic. Footage from this is then fed to the big-screen monitor or – in the future – streamed live to a website, to enable owners to watch on their PC at work or home.
The programme is called AudiDirect, and is currently being rolled out across the German brand’s entire UK dealer network. It will even allow drivers to discuss issues relating to their car with garage mechanics via a two-way radio.
Jeremy Hicks, boss of Audi UK, told Auto Express that the video link was designed to “demystify the process” and increase the transparency of services and repair work. “That way,” he added, “everyone who entrusts their Audi to us knows exactly where they stand.” Customers will not be charged to take advantage of the system.
