The Lexus CT 200h enters the small luxury car segment showcasing the latest form of Lexus Hybrid Drive technology which allows the driver to select one of four operating modes, depending on driving conditions.
The four driving modes include EV (electric vehicle), ECO, NORMAL and SPORT, the instrument panel and dials changing colour in relation to the mode selected. The CT 200h also comes with a 1.8-litre VVT-i petrol engine and an electrically controlled variable transmission.
In EV mode the CT 200h can run on its electric motor alone, at low speeds and with zero tailpipe emissions. Selecting ECO mode automatically adjusts the car's systems to provide the maximum efficiency and the best fuel consumption. Air conditioning is reduced, throttle responses are moderated.
NORMAL mode configures the car in a similar way but to a lesser extent.
Reach the open road and select SPORT mode and the electric motor is wound up from 500V to 650V and the throttle response is boosted allowing the driver to explore the more dynamic characteristics of the CT 200h. The steeirng also quickens and the rev limiter is extended.
The Lexus CT 200h will be launched at the 2010 Paris Motor Show and be available to buy through official retailers in October.
