It’s official! GM boss Nick Reilly has confirmed that Opel and Vauxhall will introduce a new, sub-Corsa-sized city car in 2013. The newcomer, which will be inspired by the 2004 Geneva Motor Show Opel Trixx concept pictured here, will be built at GM’s Eisenach plant in Germany.
Codenamed “Made in Eisenach”, the new car represents a 90 million Euro (£76.5 million) investment in the plant which currently builds the three-door Corsa. The new city car will take over the plant, while the next generation Corsa will be made in Zaragoza in Spain.
Speaking at a press event at Eisenach today, Reilly said, “This is a further milestone in the growth strategy for our business,” said Opel/Vauxhall CEO Nick Reilly. “Our €90 million investment in the Eisenach plant will significantly strengthen its role within our European manufacturing network, and will offer customers a brand-new model with innovative technology and exciting design.”
The new car will debut in 2013 with conventional powerplants, although it will be engineered from the start to accept alternative powertrains, including an all-electric version.

Vauxhall is such a badge engineered model now, with virtually zero car production. Does anyone know what they build here now? Last I remember was the Vectra and only the 5 door model. Hardly constitues a real brand does it!
Vauxhall has died more than 15 year ago. Today it is nothing more than german designed Opel with griffin logo.
The same Ford - designed and engineered in Germany.
well dont no about about zero production.
but at ellesmere port they build the astra 5 door. the astra van
and now they are building the all new estate. and they are getting ready to start a 3rd shift . and yes its got a griffin on the car which all ellesmere port workers are proud off .
so to all we are still here and proud to be building the astra car.astra van.and now the new astra estate
Production does not mean design.
In fact the biggest car manufacturers in Britain are.... honda, toyota and nissan!
Opel sell cars in whole Europe, even in Ireland there are right hand drive Opels. You can buy Vauxhall only in the UK.... ups sorry - you can buy Opel with Vauxhall badge.
Ireland, Malta and Cyprus I think are the markets for RHD Opels.
Even the Google streetview Astras were UK registered Opels.
Given the general public's obsession with German marques, it could be a strategy to reintroduce Opel to the UK as "premium" Insignias and perhaps an Astra saloon.
Vauxhall could be kept for small and sporting cars including Corsas, Astra hatches, VXR products, a replacement for the VX220 etc. and introduced into Europe as such.
At least Vauxhall/opel produce cars in the uk......
so every time you turn the key on your Ford, Peugeot,Citroen, hyundai or kia think of all the british people you've kept in jobs !!!!!!!
german's lost the war won the piece
