It's all change at MINI's design studio! The man behind the modern day MINI, Gert Hildebrand, is set to leave the company at the end of the year to be replaced by the current head of Exterior Design for BMW, Anders Warming.
Hildebrand has been head of the MINI design studio since January 2001 and was responsible for the design of the hatch, convertible, Clubman and off-road Countryman models. We haven't seen the last of Hildebrand's work though, with the MINI Coupe and Roadster available in 2011 and 2012.
The man taking his place, Anders Warming, has worked on the new BMW Z4, 5-Series and the new 6-Series.
Don't expect to see a drastic change in future MINI designs though. The brand has developed a style and image that bosses will be keen to retain.
MINI didn't provide a reason for Hildebrand's departure but head of BMW Group design, Adrian van Hooydonk said: "I would like to wish Gert Hildebrand all the best for the future and thank him for working with us so well and so successfully"

Well I won't hold my breath but I hope the new head of design, Anders Warming will put a stop to the abominations that seem to be happening to MINI of late. That 5 door Countryman effort really is an insult to all things Mini.
When the Fiat Multipla was introduced I referred to it as the Fiat Ugly. The Countryman comes a close second I'm afraid but even worse, why by a Clubman now there is a Countryman. One model introduced has made the other redundant. Not good design sense in my book
Maybe BMW Mini's next project will be a revamped Austin Allegro, closely followed by a 'Princess'.
Erm, did I really just say that??? ^^
...or even... wait for it... a MINI Metro!!!
Where's 'Red Robbo' these days, he might want to come out of retirement? :D
BMW top it again with a new joker! And I thought the Oktoberfest was ended and the board had stopped drinking masses of Weissbier at lunch in the Round Tower in the Ring in swinging Munich.
I am not certain where Issigonis is buried but I hope its somewhere cold to cool him down when he sees these objects coming out of BMWs Mini Studio!
Or is this some form of nightmare and I will wake up?
