Toyota has upgraded its range-topping Yaris models. Based on the current top-selling TR trim, the T Spirit and SR models go on sale in January.

The T Spirit package includes an integrated TomTom sat-nav with Bluetooth and USB connectivity, eight-spoke alloys, climate control, rear parking sensors and chrome surrounds for the front foglights.

The best news is that the extra kit comes at no extra cost as this model costs £11,695, exactly the same price as the TR.

The SR package is designed to be a little more sporty, and includes Toyota Motorsport 16-inch alloys, a roof spoiler, extra chrome detailing and rear privacy glass, plus a TomTom sat-nav and climate control. The SR costs £13,215, which is a £750 price premium on the TR model.

The T Spirit package is available with all engine and transmission combinations, while the SR can only be had with the 1.33-litre petrol engine and one of three paint finishes - are Cirrus White, Chilli Red and Crystal Silver.

Great

I've always liked the Yaris. I'm surpised about the addition of T-Spirit and SR, I wasn't expecting it at all! I really do hope they keep the TR, though, since their based on that trim.

Don't forget, however, Toyota are revealing the mk3 Yaris for the Japanese market, on December 22nd.

Yawn

Another addition to a range of hippos. Only the iQ shows that there is a glimmer of hope for a brand revolution like Nissan, from the dreary Almera to the Qashqai, Juke and 370Z...

Good car

I have an 08 model of the SR and after a terrible experience with a new Mazda MX5 Cabriolet Coupe (the dealers / manufacturer / car itself letting me down badly) its been a breath of fresh air.
At the time no other model could offer the same low running costs, reputation of reliability, practicality and sporty looks for the money. Toyota were the only manufacturer to take my rubbish MX5 off me for a fair trade-in too.
After my once in a lifetime treat (the MX5) let me down badly, this little car was supposed to just be a reliable a to b runaround, but its been much more than that.
And I don't agree with criticisms of the styling - its curvy, balanced and in SR trim, attractively sporty. Not a single silly looking Bangle-BMW inspired crease in sight.
But agree with JPW2010 - the new model is just around the corner so consider that first.

New-or have we been here before?

I seem to remember these models in the Yaris just after it was introduced in 1999. I had a GLS, which I liked, apart from a sunshine roof which dripped condensation in the winter and the most irritating static electricity build-up I've ever experienced. I even liked the central digital speedometer, which was easy to read without the varifocals. No doubt the new model will be an improvement, as long as they don't just do a VW and make it bigger.
