THINK City electric car now with four seats

Tiny electric city car from THINK now available with 2+2 seating layout.

THINK City

By Tom Phillips

21st December 2010

The tiny THINK City car is now available with four seats – a first for the company. The all-electric commuter car with the new interior layout goes on sale in Norway, where THINK is based, this month, and will arrive in the UK early next year priced from around £23,500.

The THINK is powered by a lithium-ion battery which gives a range of 100 miles. Top speed is 68mph. The new 2+2 car comes with air conditioning as standard, and is backed by a five-year/60,000-mile warranty. The new seats can also be folded, giving boot space that’s similar to the previous two-seater car.

Unlike the controversial G-Wiz, the THINK City has been granted pan-European regulatory safety approval and is homologated for sale as a passenger car across the continent.

THINK EV : can't wait!

OK, it's not a Tesla, or a Nissan Leaf, but for a lot of drivers it will be exactly what they need. 100 mile range, zero emissions, matt finish bodywork so no polishing. As for the price, no doubt there'll be some system in place to spread the cost over the 5 years that it's warranted. It might look like its raided the Ford parts bin, but at least it seems practical and I, for one, would love to own one. Plus, it's not a G-Wiz which would just be a step too far.

Beware of "Pan European" claims!

This "Pan European" regulatory safety approval has got me confused! There is more than one "pan-European" scheme available and depending on which one, it may or may not have done the same safety tests as a mass produced conventional car.

Not for me!

Following the bad winter I'm holding out for an electric small part time 4x4.

Think EV City: all change in 2012.

I emailed Think to find out if they'd be selling the City in the UK in rhd. Turns out, there's a new model due in 2012 which will be sold in the UK in rhd. Hopefully it's the same size as the City which is large enough for my needs and with a range of 100miles per charge would suit me fine. OK, it won't suit everyone, but how many of us actually drive over 100 miles every day and need acres of space. Now, I'll just have to build my own wind turbine in the garden.
