Vauxhall has announced a special edition version of its freshly-facelifted Corsa VXR. Called the VXR Blue, the newcomer features Arden Blue metallic paint, 18-inch alloys, dark-tinted glass, bespoke interior air vents and Recaro seats.

Like the rest of the range, the Corsa VXR Blue gets the new eagle-eye headlights, but adds a blue bar across the grille. As with the regular VXR, the hottest Corsa gets foglights, a more aggressive front bumper, small rear wing and centre-exit exhaust. Inside, the Blue edition adds blue stitching to the leather steering wheel, blue air vents and blue trim on the Recaro seats.

Power comes from a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine, which allows the Corsa to sprint from 0-60mph in 6.8 seconds and hit 140mph. The Corsa VXR Blue comes with lowered sports suspension, uprated brakes and switchable ESP.

The Blue edition is available to order now, with deliveries in late February, costing £19,425 - £800 more than the standard VXR. Vauxhall claims that the extra kit would cost an extra £445 if you specced it on the ordinary car, and adds that the VXR undercuts competitors like the Citroen DS3 R and the Mini Cooper Works by up to £3,600.

yeah right!

Under cuts the MINI cooper S works by £3600, rubbish. It is actually more expensive than the standard cooper S the car it is more closely matched to. Once again over priced Vauxhalls.

I don't get it

So, it costs £800 more than the standard car for £445 extra kit. I must have missed something because I don't see the point.

whats wrong with you people?

Firstly, its £800 more than standard list price but if you were to add the options of paint, 18" alloys and tinted windows, it would be £445 more than the vxr blue. Secondly, as well as this you also get the blue trimming and seats in the interior as a nice exterior.

As for the price, you'd have to be a special kind of retard to pay list price for a Vauxhall new. Pentagon are already listing this car at £15,800 which is over £2000 cheaper than a standard cooper s (and thats before you add on the next £1000 for the near essential chilli pack). Yes the cooper will hold its value better but it all comes down to choice and I think the corsa is one of the best supermini hot hatches around so it all comes down to what you like and how much you want to spend

Nineteen Grand Roller Skate?

So it undercuts the Mini.
Is it as well built?
Will it hold its value as well?
Does it look as good?
Does it drive as well?
And as for those blue air intake surrounds?
No its just coarser!
Its time this car drew its pension and retired.

you dont have a clue do you jus tby the way your talking..... the corsa is by no means the best super mini out there but to say it needs to retire is silly...... what about the fiesta thats been going 7-8 years longer and is no better........ stop talkin rubbish..

i would say it is as well built as the mini..... have you been in/driven one??????? ive known a handful of people with mini's and have had no end of problems one even caught fire.... so unless you can write something productable do one...........

You fellas in the UK are SO lucky to debate the pluses and minuses of this car, where its available to buy. I'm bloody green with envy when I see the piece of shit masquerading as a small car, dished up here by Holden, a.k.a. GM, compared to this fantastic looking little rocket. Our bit of crap, cutely called a Barina is sourced in Korea.....gee I guess that'll be Daewoo, and only a few years back it scored a whole 2 out of 5 in crash testing.
Now laugh.......I drive a Barina, but I'm quick to add it was built in Spain. It is certainly is a small car, built DOWN to a price, then scaled down for midgets. The designers had the night off and the cleaners finished off the design.
There are small [practical] cars, then there are small cars that are simply dumb. I challenge any so-called designer to explain the difference, and while they're at it, just exactly why a car is never quite the right size. Think model to model progression.
Was the reference to the Cooper the Cooper S, or the correctly named JCW Mini??
