Honda Jazz estate leaked

Leaked brochure shots show Shuttle name to return on practical Honda Jazz estate.

Honda Jazz estate leaked rear

By Luke Madden

17th January 2011

Honda has put the boot into the Jazz – and these grainy brochure shots, leaked from Japan, show the practical new estate model is ready to take the fight to supermini-based load carriers such as Skoda’s Fabia and the Renault Clio.

The Jazz estate gets the same tweaked styling as the imminent facelifted hatch, plus a raised roofline and extended body. Bosses have resurrected the Shuttle badge for the car.

These enhancements
mean there will be even more space for rear passengers, as well as a significantly larger boot than the 399 litres of
the current Jazz hatchback.

Engines are reportedly
set to be carried over from
the current line-up, so expect to see 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre powerplants with 89bhp and 99bhp respectively. The
1.3-litre IMA hybrid system
– which features in the new petrol-electric Jazz, as well as Honda’s Insight – is also likely to be offered. This should give 102bhp. There’s no word about an on-sale date, but the estate would fit nicely into the range.

It's not April 1st is it?

Awful, absolutely awful.
Buy one of these and you're saying to the world "I've given up on life".
Does Honda make any good cars any more?

By gavsmit on 17 January, 2011, 6:57pm

Honda is the new Nissan

Honda is now where Nissan was eight/ten years ago. They make very good cars but they look as dull as dishwater! They really need to invest in a good design team before it is too late.

No thanks

Oh dear, what an ungainly looking thing this is, Honda need to remember the type of customer they used to cater well for through the eighties and nineties - the car enthusiast.!

Unhappy accident

It looks like a Jazz rear ended something hideous.

What is that?!

All the Japanese makers turn out some weird but occasionally wonderful stuff for the (Japanese) home market, and this looks like another one! The real question is what is the third photo of? It is plainly not the Jazz, but surely not the new Civic...?

Not for UK

It is highly unlikely this vehicle will ever make it to the UK, from the photos you can see its clearly a Japanese market vehicle.

What a beauty.

The commentators must belong to Jeremy Clarkson's juvenile, let's-do-doughnuts gang. Since all estates look uncomfortable it is remarkable that this design moves smoothly with interesting flow lines. As for the nobhead who said they need to invest in a good design team - God help him, clearly his Mother hasn't. Honda has unique design features: the fold 'UP' rear seat in the Civic is brilliant and immensely practical, nobody else is there yet; the Civic dash is a blissful change from the silly little Noddy bins for speedos, etc, that even top end luxury cars call a 'command and control centre'. I could go on. The front end (picture 3) is a delight compared to the gaping maws of most modern cars, the Duhh front-ends that mimic the dumbing down of some commentators. If this is a Jazz (it's more likely to be a Ciivic) Honda simply has to put a stronger diesel engine in with a 0-60 of 9.9 secs and a cool 60mpg on the combined cycle. More new cars are achieving this. Honda, ignore the Doughnut Gang - this is great.

Beauty?

@Tooyoo - As an occasional hater of Jeremy Clarkson and his Clarksonites (Doughnut Gang to you) I have to agree with a lot of the commentators. That C pillar is inexcusable. Hence my comment that it looks like the unsuccesful marriage of two completely different cars. The Jazz and a Japanese market only Honda estate, the model name of which I can't remember. Had the glass house been treated a little differently the results would have been better.

Picture 3...

This looks a very practical car like the shuttle and stream before and should do well for Honda. Why do honda who produce some wonderful cars suddenly cease production with no replacement it just seems daft. I agree it could do with a good diesel althiugh I get 39 out of my diesel crv and achieved 60mpg out of a diesel civic. but practically it needs to return 70mpg at a steady 60mph then it would be a real winner.

Not all estates are ugly....

...and some even have a cult following - look at Audi's RS6.
On a more affordable level, I personally think the Fabia vRS estate looks great, and the Superb looks better as an estate than a hatch.
But this Jazz estate looks awful, mainly because it just looks like a box has been welded onto the back of a normal Jazz. That's a shame as the old shuttle models had a quirky charm. I have respected Honda for years, seeing them as pioneers of engineering excellence rather than deserving their somewhat stuffy reputation, but their latest model line-up is disappointing, and the possible launch of models like this has done nothing to change that.
....I like doughnuts (especially custard) but prefer to let other people insult themselves.

Diesel Option?

It will need a diesel engine if it is to stand anychance as an estate car; especially with those odd ball looks

Very few Estates are that good looking & Practical at the same time but this New Honda Jazz Estate is really not doing its self an favours. The Honda Jazz has a good reputation and is a practical car which has grown larger over the years. But as an Estate it is pretty ugly even if it is practical, so who would by one?

By Dickie01210 on 8 February, 2011, 12:46pm

Can't wait. It's great. I want one now.
